Description

INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER •  “[Peter V. Brett] confirms his place among epic fantasy’s pantheon of greats amid the likes of George R. R. Martin, Steven Erikson, and Robert Jordan.”—Fantasy Book Critic

The second volume in the internationally bestselling Demon Cycle series continues the epic tale of humanity’s last stand against an army of demons—and reveals a new contender for the role of savior.

The sun is setting on humanity. The night now belongs to voracious demons that prey upon a dwindling population forced to cower behind half-forgotten symbols of power. Legends tell of a Deliverer: a general who once bound all mankind into a single force that defeated the demons. But is the return of the Deliverer just another myth?

Out of the sands rides Ahmann Jardir, who has forged the desert tribes of Krasia into a demon-killing army. He has proclaimed himself Shar’Dama Ka, the Deliverer, and carries ancient weapons—a spear and a crown—that give credence to his claim.

But the Northerners claim their own Deliverer: the Warded Man, a dark, forbidding figure. Once, the Shar’Dama Ka and the Warded Man were friends. Now they are fierce adversaries. Yet as old allegiances are tested and fresh alliances forged, all are unaware of the appearance of a new breed of demon, more intelligent—and deadly—than any that have come before.

Couldn’t stop reading from the start. So easy to get lost in another world like this one. Saw other reviews that said it jumps around a lot and it did, but it was just like the first book in that sense. It told backstories that were necessary. I felt like every part had action that made me not want to stop reading and I was sad when I got to the end and there was nothing left to read but the dictionary of Krasian words. Bought the next book right away.

Honestly it’s by far one of the greatest books I’ve read and I have no complaints I wouldn’t change it at all but there was way too much sex to the point it kinda got weird and more than half the time I felt like it was just a filler the chapter would have a great plot and be interesting then at the end it would be they had sex the end next chapter and there was no point in adding it. But it was a great read I finished it in 2 days and couldn’t put it down. I would highly recommend this book to everyone.

Entirely different style from Warded Man. Boring slog.
  • First books was great but the author is slipping.

The first book was great but it feels as if the story is making U-turns randomly. I’m not entirely sure the author knows where he is going with this. I’ll finish the series but note book 2 is where it’s starting to fall.

Best Story Ever. I’m actually upset I’m reading through these books so fast. I simply don’t want it to end
  • Second book is worth a look

This book leaves behind many of the characters we were introduced to in the first book for a long while. The furthering of the world is nice but this book isn't a self contained story. Recommended only for fans of "The Warded Man"
  • A little slow in the beginning

Cared very little for the past of Jardir. Although I did enjoy reading the parts with him and Abban greatly. Dragged on more than I liked. Not as good as the first but still an enjoyable read.

What a satisfying story...plot twists, new magic and old friends. The words danced and the story progressed. Looking forward to book 3, which starts now.
