Once I started this book, I honestly couldn't put it down. I almost weep at the humanity it explores, the full realm of good & evil. The young boy, Charlie, aka Batman, makes me cry due to his own naïve circumstances and unconditional love. I LOVE Little Bee!

Easily one of the best books I have read. Those who don't like it is uneducated.
  • Promise and Disappointment

Little Bee held such promise and eventually left me disappointed. It was curious to me that a male author wrote in the voice of two women and I didn't think he really pulled it off. Also curious was that the two male characters were not only weak, but fatally flawed. The child character was perhaps the most striking note of discord, as he was totally unbelievable. It surprised me to read that Mr. Cleave is, in fact, a father himself. The story was interesting in that it allowed the reader a chance to visit the cruel life of the illegal immigrant. However, the story was disjointed, circular, slow-moving, and plodding. I also was left with the feeling that the white people just didn't get it.

This was definitely an interesting reading experience. First few chapters were better than the later chapters, in terms of smoothness of the story and how it captured my attention. I found this book really haunting and sad. Not very funny, almost depressing. However, it definitely made me think. About the ending, I also was not 100% satisfied with how it ended, but, when I went back to read the last chapter again, it kind of made sense to me, why the author wanted to end it that way. It really is about how the characters transform (or not) throughout the story, not how it ends. I definitely recommend this book.

I liked this book fine, just didn't fall in love with it. Can't really explain why I didn't love it, just felt a little incomplete. Not terrible by any means, I guess I just expected more from the "hook" of the review that promised such a wondrous, surprising read and I feel that it fell just a little short.

I enjoyed this book very much and would like to know what happens next. I think it's a great story of survival, forgiveness, and loving one another.
