As always, Andrews (aka Hogan/Trochek) serves up a clever, well-written story that had me literally laughing outloud at points. The characters are well-drawn and realistic, and the true romances are heartwarming. But in Chapter 35, Bebe says ",,,,I'm thinking the police won't lift a finger to help us," but I know that to be untrue. I worked for a law enforcement agency for a decade-and-a-half and we regularly prosecuted fraud cases in which people had stolen from others, from families to strangers. That made the book a lot less enjoyable for me, knowing that so many people would believe that statement beacuse it was in print, and written by an excellent writer, at that. I guess that because we live in a time where "Defunding police" is cool, authors might feel they need to "Dis" them, instead of treating them truthfully like with ANY other group - the great majority being caring and good, with a few bad apples - not uncaring in general. I spent a LOT of my time helping fraud victims. Ideally, you get a deal in which the perp will be sentenced to probation WITH condition of repayment and when that doesn't occur, s/he is remanded to jail to serve the time there instead. It can be done. And taking things into our own hands in a case like this is NEVER the answer; in any form, that is WRONG and usually ineffective! I will read more of her books, because I have loved her writing ever since she was with the Atlanta paper. But I think I will go back to the older ones!

Love her descriptions throughout the book, of people, places and events. Details abounded and enriched the moment.

I've read 6 other books by Mary Kay Andrews and this was by far my favorite! It seemed to have a slow start but that didn't last long. It made me laugh out loud several times. And I was actually surprised/thrilled/proud of the outcome. I'd definitely recommend this book, not to mention read it again.
