It took me a while to finish this book (and I normally devour books in 2-3 days) just due to the author’s especially wordy descriptions and flashbacks. It sometimes takes her two or three pages to get back to the point which can feel excessive at times. HOWEVER, it is still a gem and one I absolutely love. Great overall message. Great read.

A beautiful book, wonderfully written, and genuinely honest. When this book came out I remember relating so much the the beginning of it. I was in a painful place. I had ended a 5 year (almost a marriage type of relationship) and jumped into another one too soon. Today I relate so much more to the ending of the book. It’s like reading it for the first time because I am a different person too. But I can honestly say I loved it then and I love it more now. It’s a wonderful book of growth and self reflection. While it doesn’t inspire me to do what she did, it inspires me to reflect on the last ten years of my life and ask my self the questions she asked herself.

I loved reading the author’s journey from start to finish. It was both moving and inspiring, and also relatable. I really enjoyed the author’s writing style; it was friendly, upbeat, and conversational, as though she were in the room telling you her story, rather than you reading it in a book. Wonderful read. Would recommend.

Other than school textbooks, I've never highlighted book pages. This one I did. There were some inspiring quotes and bits of history that I just wanted to be able to reread easily. I'm so in love with this book. I really took my time reading it, enjoying it. Was quite sad when I finished. The way Ms.Gilbert writes just encapsulates you, makes you laugh, cry and live through her words. It wasn't just about her journey, but each place she visited, she taught you history of how it came to be. Taught it in a way that was interesting, that you'd want to learn more. This isn't just a book that you read and discard, it's like a guide book for the way life should be appreciated, respected and loved because this planet has so much to offer sometimes you just gotta take that leap! I will say this, finished this book yesterday and then watched the movie and I thought the movie was AWEFUL. It was rushed, left out a HUGE key character in my opinion and changed some things up in a disappointing way so I recommend READING THIS BOOK FIRST. Or maybe see the movie first so you'll be that much more engulfed in the book.

While it's a great story by itself, it's almost like a hidden guide for relating, and dealing with one's own depression. I don't think I could have gotten through last year without knowing that I wasn't the only one who felt that way...
