If you could go back in time, who would you want to meet?

In a small back alley of Tokyo, there is a café that has been serving carefully brewed coffee for more than one hundred years. Local legend says that this shop offers something else besides coffee—the chance to travel back in time.

Over the course of one summer, four customers visit the café in the hopes of making that journey. But time travel isn’t so simple, and there are rules that must be followed. Most important, the trip can last only as long as it takes for the coffee to get cold.

Heartwarming, wistful, mysterious and delightfully quirky, Toshikazu Kawaguchi’s internationally bestselling novel explores the age-old question: What would you change if you could travel back in time?

Meet more wonderful characters in the rest of the captivating Before the Coffee Gets Cold series:  Tales from the Cafe Before Your Memory Fades Before We Say Goodbye And the upcoming BEFORE WE FORGET KINDESS

I read the second book in the series first (they ran out of this one at the book store) and I think that only enhanced the experience. The last story benefited from knowledge carried over from having read the second book first. I would not change a single aspect about this book, 5/5 for me.

Such a hearth warming book. The characters are intriguing and they offers insight into mended relationships. I love how this book encourages the readers to accept the present and bravely embark the future with a confident attitude.

A few easily tied together stories of life challenges facing the character, with a touch of time travel. Life situations that many can relate to. A fairly quick read. I enjoyed it and shed a few tears, too.
  • Master Story teller!

Clearly a thoughtful writer Toshikazu Kawaguchi..the ability to keep the message intact while giving the reader Insightful details about the characters, environment, history etc. I am impressed with how the characters were true to form and somewhat developed within in a relatively short read.

While the stories offer some Hallmark channel-like twists, there are very few true insights, the characters are extremely undeveloped, the exposition and repetitiveness are annoying, and the translation leaves much to be desired. Inoffensive is about the best I can offer.
