  • A rollercoaster riddled with bouts of unrealism

Camilla Brown is the survivor of a devastating accident that claims the life of her husband, and leaves her with an assortment of physical and emotional scars. Coupled with her addiction to alcohol and her obsession with Valerie, a girl she knew almost a decade ago, Camilla adopts a life of a social recluse - until she discovers Valerie has a stalker who bears an uncanny resemblance to her dead husband. As she sets out to save Valerie in her drunken stupor, Camilla is forced to confront her past, discover the truth about her own accident and come to grips with a reality that is much more sinister than she had imagined. Like Follow Kill is quite a thriller with plentiful twists and turns, each of which promises to change the fabric of the story. While the writing style needs some getting used to, Carissa Ann Lynch does a fantastic job with the narrative and Camilla’s character, by creating an intriguing and riveting reading experience. While some twists seem exceedingly unrealistic and seem to be introduced for altering whatever semblance of the plot you might gather, the overall narrative is thrilling and unpredictable. Although I wasn’t a fan of the biggest reveal - the truth about what happens to Valerie, or how little the other characters mattered, I found Camilla’s journey quite enthralling.

One of the best books I’ve read this year.
