Enlightened Neanderthal Bigot fighting some of the more interesting and original monsters. The author does not come across as bigoted, but has for some reason has chosen a poorly constructed one as his protagonist and main foil. Sometimes you root for him, sometimes you despise him, most of the time you just really wish his was a less tedious cardboard cutout. I cannot recall a time I have admired an author’s talent and resented his choices in equal measure.
