  • Quick and intruiging read

Fallen is a quick read (Novella length), but full of intriguing and essential building blocks. It follows the story of Samantha Erikson, a vampire with her eye on the throne, but she has to stake her claim by taking out a girl who's already supposed to be dead. First I want to say that the types of vampires, born versus created, intrigued me. It's a nice spin because when you think of born vampires, you think dhampir, but this isn't the case. everything else aligns fairly close to common vampire tales -no sparkles- but I was a bit surprised when they ate real food. No biggie, I love when authors change it up. I mean would you want to drink nothing but blood? Pfft, I know I'd die of culinary boredom. The romance was sweet and innocent from a steam point level. I'd say this is perfect for the 16+ crowd, but a bit younger wouldn't hurt either. Of course many adults love YA too and sometimes a sweet read is just what the doctor orders. I can't wait to read the rest of the series and see how the story plays out.
