So far, I'm getting a sense of how to think about the crafting of history, and how historians' critique of each other's approach is interesting in itself. The reason I'm writing this review now, is because reading this book a slow process, and I don't want to forget the following detail: The editor of the brook version gave me a little puzzle to figure out. What is "ioropia"? After scouring Oxford's lexicon of Greek, and perusing a modern Greek dictionary, I finally figured it out, but not by way of reference. The OCR software did a poor job of rendering "istoria". The sigma was rendered as an English letter 'o' and the tau was rendered as an English 'r'. Hence, ioropia = istoria. Took me several times diving in. But I finally figured it out.
