Many scholars believe that the same author write the Gospel of Luke and the book of the Acts of the Apostles. The language and phrasing of both books is very similar, and the book of Acts opens with a reference to “my earlier book.” Traditional holds the Apostle Luke, a physician and associate of Paul, wrote both books. The author of this scholarly work, the first in a series of four, was a prominent German theologian and Biblical scholar of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. As he states in his preface, Luke’s writings are one of “the pillars of primitive Christian history.”
