This is a descriptive novel of the southwest in the 1800's as seen through the eyes of Catholic priests sent to spread the gospel. Cather descriptions of the native Americans, the Mexicans, and the land are key to the story. It immerses the reader into a time where life was harsh, but simple, and not polluted from man's movement to progress.
