This is an amazing book for those that want to dip their toes into the deep space that is Warhammer 40k. The God Emperor approves this commissar and his beloved ghosts of Tanith.

This book makes me appreciate the Imperial Guard, I have been a space marine guy but now I have also I started liking the Guard. Fun story, lots of action!

I own every Gaunts Ghosts book. Gold. Ten outta ten.

First book I read from warhammer universe. Sets the scene perfect and is really an engaging read.

The Gaunt's Ghosts series is fast-paced and perfectly gritty. They represent the Warhammer 40,000 world brilliantly, and with no shortage of brutal military action.

Dan Abnett has written an incredible amount of material for Black Library along with a great collection of comics. He has essentially set the stage for the 40K universe that is now considered canon for most readers. That being said I cannot recomend buying these books on iBooks. $12.00 for one storey when anyone could go to Amazon or Barnes & Noble and get the Omnibus which contains at least three to four novels for the series for less. Great novels just not worth the price being charged on iBooks

Excellent start to an excellent series. For me this is the standard of scifi the way Lord of the Rings is for fantasy.

Considering this book was written back in 2000, 13 years ago, it still fits snugly within the current 40k canon. I'm excited to start this series.
