Description

Dr. Michael S. Heiser, a Scholar-in-Residence at Faithlife Corporation, presents fifteen years of research on what the Bible really says about the unseen world of the supernatural—unfiltered by tradition or by theological presuppositions. “People shouldn’t be protected from the Bible,” Dr. Michael S. Heiser says, but theological systems often do just that, by “explaining away” difficult or troublesome passages of Scripture because their literal meaning doesn’t fit into our tidy systems.
Who were the “sons of God”? Who were the Nephilim? Where do angels fit into the supernatural hierarchy? Why did God find it necessary to have the Israelites destroy the populations of entire cities—man, woman, and child? What relation does Jesus bear to the rest of the supernatural world? Dr. Michael S. Heiser tackles these questions and many more in his books Supernatural and The Unseen Realm.
In both books, Dr. Michael S. Heiser shines a light on the supernatural world—not a new light, but rather the same light the original, ancient readers—and writers—of Scripture would have seen it in.
After reading these books, you won’t be able to read the Bible in the same way again.
Supernatural, What the Bible Teaches about the Unseen World—and Why it Matters presents this approach to reading and understanding scripture for the person in the pew. The Unseen Realm covers the same material but at a deeper, complex, and highly documented way, for pastors, the seminarian, or serious students of the Bible.

I liked this book a lot. It teaches you about how to view the Bible from a supernatural lens. It’s grounded in sound biblical interpretation and the gospel. It removes any nonsensical thinking about the supernatural world. A great read for anyone interested in understanding what the Bible says about the spiritual realm.

With all that’s going on in the world today, this book is a must read to help answer some of the questions if you’re asking “but why?” If you’re already a believer in Jesus and the unseen world, you must read this. It’s Time!

This is a great book. I’ve learned so much about our relationship as Christians with those of the supernatural world. What is great about this book is that it is almost all scripturally based. There was one remark in the last few chapters which I believe was more opinionated and not scripturally based (something along the lines of “we shouldn’t be Christlike out of fear of Him…” (paraphrasing)). However, this statement didn’t take away from the overall message, nor that of the scriptures Dr. Heiser used for his very in depth explanation of the supernatural world. This book should make any and all believers in Christ excited for the opportunity to serve amongst each other as coheirs in Christ. To any and all Christians who have ever been confused on our relationship with the supernatural, including God, this book will guide you through what the scriptures tell us regarding this subject. From God to Satan, angels to demons, the sons of God to nephilim, and all the other amazing things which are the causation for the word “faith”. If there were a standard curriculum for all Christians, this book would inevitably be apart of it. Thank you Dr. Heiser. God bless.

As a biblical scholar, Heiser’s book has given me pause and made me return to the biblical texts to ascertain his claims like the Berean believers of old. Worth the purchase to the inquisitive student of the Bible—scholar and believer alike.
  • What a Perspective

Michael Heiser’s perspective on the Super Natural World has absolutely given me a new perspective. How we view the unseen will determine (in large part) how we live our lives today! If you want to think about the bible in a way that maybe you haven’t (I was born and raised Southern Baptist) then I hope you pick up this book and let it stretch your mind. It has helped me to be closer to God in prayer and in “searching the scriptures” to test a lot of what Mr. Heiser has stated. Happy Reading…
