Description

In this gripping page-turner, an ex-agent on the run from her former employers must take one more case to clear her name and save her life.

She used to work for the U.S. government, but very few people ever knew that. An expert in her field, she was one of the darkest secrets of an agency so clandestine it doesn't even have a name. And when they decided she was a liability, they came for her without warning.

Now she rarely stays in the same place or uses the same name for long. They've killed the only other person she trusted, but something she knows still poses a threat. They want her dead, and soon. When her former handler offers her a way out, she realizes it's her only chance to erase the giant target on her back. But it means taking one last job for her ex-employers.

To her horror, the information she acquires only makes her situation more dangerous. Resolving to meet the threat head-on, she prepares for the toughest fight of her life but finds herself falling for a man who can only complicate her likelihood of survival. As she sees her choices being rapidly whittled down, she must apply her unique talents in ways she never dreamed of.

In this tautly plotted novel, Meyer creates a fierce and fascinating new heroine with a very specialized skill set. And she shows once again why she's one of the world's bestselling authors.

Engaging read. The main character read like a female version of Mitch Rapp. I’d recommend this book. Stephanie Meyers never seems to disappoint.

This book was SO well done. I am very late in reading this considering it came out over 5 years ago, but it was truly incredible nonetheless. Out of the many books I have read over the years, this one particularly stands out in not only its execution of what clearly took immense research and networking to create, but also in the character development, back stories, and the interactions the characters have; There were numerous moments I caught myself laughing at how these characters spoke to eachother and interacted. I truly could not recommend this book more, even all these years later. From sci-fi to thriller to action to suspense to romance, this novel has it all. I will say the ONLY part I was not a fan of was the epilogue; I have a friend who said she found a different one online so maybe it was the copy/version I bought, but it just did not add the story at all. Hoepfully, the different version is much better.

This book was amazing! I have read all of Stephanie Meyer’s books and I have loved them all (except New Moon). I love the relationships between all the characters and they had great chemistry (pun intended). On top of that, the action was was superb.

As a fan of Stephanie Meyer I have read all her books! This particular novel went outside her normal mythology range and landed me right in the middle of a totally new love story. It was thrilling, romantic & action filled every second. 10/10 recommend

I read the Twilight series as a teenager and just finished the new Midnight Sun book. I’m not going to make this review about those series, but overall I enjoy Meyers’ books though I frequently feel like the characters are not fully developed. When I was searching for my next book I needed something intense but came to a conclusion at the end. I happened upon The Chemist and was not let down at all. This book was exactly what I wanted- fast paced, full, round characters with their downfalls and negative traits, and kept me enthralled in the novel. I would put this into a similar category as a spy novel but it’s so much more. I tend to read young adult mostly, but this book was perfect to me and opened my eyes to a whole new category! Honestly, after finishing the book, I’m disappointed with the other reviews on here so I had to write this one. If you’re looking to read/listen to a longer book that twists and turns at a fast pace you have found your winner. It’s some type of spy, thriller, romance, and mystery mix all in one. I clearly am biased, but I 10/10 recommend.
