  • Slow read…

I love her other books, but this one was dull and predictable. The characters were never brought into clear focus and the story dragged on and on until the last 1/4 of the book. From that point on, it was so predictable and then the characters were trying to be brought to life in a way that should have happened earlier.

Had no idea ships of brides actually existed. Enjoyed the historical aspect of the book without feeling bored (sadly I can’t get with historical nonfiction). Wish the little dog made it

Not my favorite Jojo novel; slow and rather anticlimactic.

This was the first Jojo Moyes book I read, and I absolutely loved it! It was a topic I never really thought about - war brides - but I was drawn in to the story. I also appreciated one of the morals - not to be judgmental. I don't recommend a lot of books, but this is one I did.

I had trouble getting into this one - lots of characters to remember and just slow to start overall - but about 100 pages in I couldn't put it down! Loved the characters and learning about that period in history! Truly enjoyed it and glad I pushed through until it got really good.
  • Unexpected historic novel. Lovely!

Couldn't stop reading it for one second. Such an interesting and unexpected setting and story that kept my eyes glued to the book. Loved the characters. To this day I can't stop thinking about Frances and all the brides' journey to the unknown. Fabulous! Must read. After 'Me before you' this is my favorite from Jojo Moyes.

This was the third book I have read by this author and it was very different from the other two (Me Before You and One Plus One). Still, I enjoyed this unconventional love story very much and admire JoJo Moyes' style of writing. The author's attention to detail and character development brought the story to life.
