I love good coffee. I love making good coffee. About halfway through the book, I started to agree with another reviewer that the author seemed to be a bit of a snob when it came to his craft. So I got online & ordered a few bags of Blue Bottle coffee. Wow. I really had no idea what delicious coffee was prior to that tasting experience. Trust me when I say that Starbucks & the sort is not good coffee. I went back to reading the book while drinking his coffee & the snobbery melted from the words & instead were replaced with care & precision. This is someone who loves coffee & spent years perfecting his craft. I'm just a novice, but I've learned so much (& I'm definitely ordering more coffee). Thank you for sharing James. ;)

Travelling to San Francisco for the first time I had no expectation for discovering decent coffee. At the WWDC conference they had Seattles Best Coffee brewing, one sip and I spat it out. I discovered just a few blocks from the Moscone centre Blue Bottle Coffee, this was a queue worth joining. Great coffee and a the best discovery of 2012 - the ginger molasses cookie. The story of Blue Bottle's origins and the Recipe for the Ginger Molasses cookies alone are reward enough for this book.
