If you are a fan le Carré and his character Smiley you will enjoy this book. Well written. Highly descriptive in a minimalist way. Evokes SE Asia of the turbulent early '70s. If not familiar with his earlier work Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, this book may leave you feeling like you are missing much of the secondary plot or psychological analysis of Smiley. It was a fun read after years away from le Carré's work
  • Simultaneously lean and rich; a novel to rival Graham Greene's best

LeCarre and Smiley - together one becomes noble and the other real. The former achieves nobility by fostering the reality for his greatest creation. Te novelist tightly plotter, never simple - or condescending - and the reward for the reader is adult writing and great story telling.

Why are there so many more Spanish translations of Le Carre's novels available for sale than there are copies of the English originals? I'd buy more, but my Spanish isn't very good... That's messed up.
