I love these books. The characters are so real. You’ll weep. You’ll rage. You will love. Enjoy the series. This is the beginning. ❤️
  • This book lost me by the first chapter. What a waste of $10.

Ugh, aweful. Waste of $10, and the 10 minutes it took to hate it.
  • Read the whole series in order.

The police chief, his wife, his children, the dog, the neighbors in Three Pines, Quebec culture and history. There is a mood in this series that’s hypnotic. You’ll fall in love .

I am new to Louise Penny, and this book made me realize I have been missing out on a truly wonderful writer. Her characters are people you want to know or know someone just like them. This wasn’t a mystery at breakneck speed. This was a book about relationships and real people I want to know. The plot was clever, and while I cared who did it and why, it was a good journey getting from A to Z.
  • Still Life.

While reading this book, the author introduces us to the villagers @ Three Pines. They are all believable, caring people with flaws as we all have. they are a tight community which accepts each one’s flaws and idiosyncrasies and still cares for them. Good story line, characters, and plot. Have read several of Louise Penny’s novels in the series and like them all.
  • Excellent, humorous writing and brilliant characters

The plot was a lot of fun, but what worked for me was the writing, dialog, thoughts and characters. I need to move on to my list of books to read, but maybe just a quick run through the next in the series first... Yes, that’s what I’ll do.
  • The best.

Louise Penny writes with humor, compassion, intelligence and elegance. Her novels are to be savored but one usually devours them instead as they are so well done. The settings are divine and one is totally drawn into the characters lives, homes and settings. By far the best mysteries available today.

The plot could be written on a napkin. Very weak.
  • Good mystery but shallow development of characters
