Heartfelt story from his mother's recollections. Wonderful synopsis of Matthew's life, struggles, and untimely death. I am amazed at the level his parents were able to 'keep their emotions in check.' If a prosecutor or investigator were to tell me this under these circumstances, I don't think I would have the strength, nor the courage exhibited by Judy and Dennis Sheppard.

An amazing book that will bring you to tears. By the end of the book you feel as though Matt was your friend and that makes his loss all the more personal.

Thank you Judy Shepard for sharing your precious memories of Matt. I feel like I know him now. Also, thank you Dennis, Judy and Logan for allowing the public to be a part of this tragic event in your life, something that you could have kept private. You have made a difference. I read this book in 2 days while our government passed a law repealing Don't Ask Don't Tell. About 20 years of public discrimination is now history. The Matthew Shepard Foundation was a major influence in this legislation. So again, thank you for all you have done. Buy this book, read it and learn. It won't be easy. At times I had to put it down because I couldn't see the words through my tears.
