The nation has fallen into mourning after the unexpected death of a beloved former First Lady, and the most powerful people in the world gather in New York for her funeral. Then the inconceivable occurs: Billionaires, politicians, and superstars of every kind are suddenly trapped within one man's brilliant and ruthless scenario. Bennett, father of ten, is pulled into the fray. As the danger escalates, Michael is hit with devastating news: After fighting for many years, his wife has succumbed to a terrible disease.
As New York descends into chaos, Bennett has lost the great love of his life and faces raising his ten devastated children alone-and rescuing 34 hostages. Day after day, Bennett confronts the most ruthless man he has ever dealt with, a man who kills without hesitation and counters everything the NYPD and FBI throw at him with impunity. As the entire world watches and the tension boils to a searing heat, Bennett has to find a way out-or face responsibility for the greatest debacle in history.

Many dignitaries, politically important people and celebrities are attending a funeral at St. Patricks Cathedral in New York. They are in attendance to honor the First Lady after her unexpected death. Suddenly the cathedral is locked down as hostages are taken by an extremely well planned group of kidnappers, actually prison guards. What ensues is a story go a brilliant co-ordinated plan by the kidnappers and NYPD Detective Michael Bennett who leaves no stone unturned and solves the case!! An excellent read!! My highest recommendation!!

Good read, but should have had Mike thank Solstice and remind him that the police had cleaned up the mess. Out of character for him.

What a unique family & what an interesting man! I feel like I have entered their family, shared Michael’s pain of losing his wife, and helped solve a desperate case. As usual Patterson has written an exciting, often humorous and very readable book. I will read the next book in the series.

I like James Patterson's writing anyway but this book is truly amazing. I couldn't put it down the first time I read it and I'm sure that anyone who's read it would tell you same if you asked them. This book is another great book by James Patterson.

VERY slow to start. Too much personal goings on about his family. I would skip thru these parts VERY rapidly, to get to the meat of the story. I have read every Alex Cross, and Women's Murder Club books with great anticipation for the next one/s. Have tried the sample of other Michael Bennett books without much hope. I shall exclude these from my future reading list. This one just did not hit the mark for me.
