The Pendergast series is worth reading. Totally different from other mystery stories I have read. It was fast-paced excitement. I started in order but the first book didn’t grab my attention. I enjoyed the books I could get online through my library. Different type of book & worth reading. Purchased a few from Apple. The cost of ebooks are getting a little too expensive. I read a book every two days. I feel $14.99 plus tax is too much when I get that same book for under $10.00 elsewhere or use the online libraries option.

I don’t know why they veered from the success of their previous agent Pendergast books but this one was disappointing.

These guys rock at what they do! The Pendergast series is the most captivating read I’ve ever encountered. Can’t wait for the next one.

~Truly, one of the worst plots and worst books I’ve ever read. But shame on me because I finished it. And I’ve enjoyed most other Pendergast books.

5 stars because it is a great read, one that is hard to put down and as usual at the very end you demand more. This case is not as far fetched or dark as previous cases, so depending on your expectations this could have an impact on how your rate. I found that while reading I was creating my own investigation chart to determine what needed to be discovered to ultimately determine 'who done it', 'why', and answer the question 'will justice prevail?'

I have read all of the Pendergast books - some obviously are better than others. The better ones, in my opinion, involve something otherworldly. And the worst ones involve just solving a crime. This is their worst book. It involves cliche out of control ex-military, characters doing things that don’t fit what they could possibly know to do, and a scooby doo reveal of a criminal at the end that is laughable but would have made a better focus to the story. I found myself skipping pages at a time with the end result realizing that I should have skipped more. I’ve said enough, but I will add that this is the first time I have noticed some of the writing to be lazy and taking the reader for granted. A situation involving a gang member that writes super hero comics that he hopes will become a movie and a prisoner that just happens to know a movie producer in town just seems like a lazy improv trick to get to the next chapter. And it is - but you won’t care because it helps keep the ride up the crooked river as short as possible.

I was looking forward to reading this book until the main character shot and killed his own dog. I’m done with this author.

I have read all the Pendergast novels. Spoiler alert, the title gives away too much. And Constance is smart enough to untie a cleated rope! Otherwise a great read!
