Description

The true story of a 6-year-old boy with a dreadful secret.

Oskar’s school teacher raises the alarm. Oskar’s mother is abroad and he has been left in the care of ‘friends’, but has been arriving in school hungry, unkempt, and with bruises on his arms, legs and body. Experienced foster carer Cathy Glass is asked to look after him, but as the weeks pass her concerns deepen. Oskar is far too quiet for a child of six and is clearly scared of something or someone.

And who are those men parked outside his school watching him?

About the author

Cathy has been a foster carer for over 30 years, during which time she has looked after more than 150 children, of all ages and backgrounds. She has three teenage children of her own; one of whom was adopted after a long-term foster placement. The name Cathy Glass is a pseudonym.

This book was a difficult read; not because of subject matter but because of how the author wrote it. The author repeated herself multiple times and over explains absolutely everything. For example, Cathy Glass will explain the workings of CPS and then explain it over and over again as if the reader is incapable of understanding the first time. Glass adds in details that aren’t needed and random. Hopping off subject for a sentence of unneeded detail and then jumping right back into the original story. Within those random quips she also mentions other books she has written. “....I tell her story in my other book...”. I don’t care about your other book. I am reading THIS one, right here, right now. As stated, I’ll give it voice but that’s it. I felt like I was reading and editing a rough draft of a school paper.

This is one of her best stories, although I have read all her fostering stories and recommend them all. I can’t wait for the next one, to hear about sweet Lucy and everyone else!
