Harlan Coben’s finest work. More twists and turns than a corkscrew. Been with this author since the beginning of his career - he just keeps getting better & better!

Somebody may enjoy this. I couldn’t finish it. Characters from central casting. Touched on most of todays hot button issues. I can’t believe I paid for it.

I'm a long time fan of Harlan Coben's writing and therefore I opened this book with happy anticipation. This was, to say the least, a terrible disappointment. The plot started well with a father's anguish due to a glimpse of a beloved but now addicted, homeless daughter begging in the park and his determination to find where she was holed up and to help her. So many threads that could have been explored and fleshed out into a great novel. Unfortunately, instead Mr. Cohen threw together a bunch of murders, a cult, 25 year old illegal adoptions, together with stereotypical "drug dealer thugs", a "cop" and "p.i." who discovered nothing, assassins in love and supposedly intelligent, successful, well-educated parents who were so bright that they kept walking into the two person drug den unarmed, unprotected, without a plan and without even telling anyone where they were going. None of the characters were developed and the events had little to do with the daughter. The author then added insult to injury by throwing in a summary chapter to wrap up everything since the parent protagonists had not solved a thing. It was just a ridiculous, shallow book that was neither a good mystery nor an examination of the emotional trauma addiction had on a family. Was this supposed to be a script outline or have I always over appreciated this author?

Runaway is a well written book about what a family will go through to save a member of their own. I felt this book was very well written and had a lot of twists and turns in the right directions. I often felt myself being so drawn into the story that I couldn’t wait to finish work and other priorities just so I could come back to it. This is a book that I felt could have been turned into a series... think about it. I’d love to read more.

Conan’s worst book, I am sorry to say. Too many characters, confusing plot, unbelievable secrets. Only made it to the end by skimming. Do not bother buying.
