This book was quite the adventure. Mei is convinced her ancestors’ foretelling of her fate means her future will be marrying Prince Soon, and when she sees the chance to have one last adventure with the handsome space pirate she acts. Prince Jarek is immediately attracted to the diminutive woman he mistakenly thinks is a nobleman’s concubine. When she flings herself at him during a skirmish at the docks, he tosses her to one of his crew to carry over his shoulder onto his spaceship. The woman is feisty and secretive about who and what she is. He assigns her to be there ship’s cook. These two characters have a passionate connection and their hearts are quickly involved. Jarek keeps his identity as a Prince a secret from MEI until he tries to convince her to stay with him. The adventure takes a few unexpected turns as Jarek, Mei and his crew seek to rescue fellow crew member Rick from drug runners. I enjoyed this book and the ending was fantastic. Princes Mei has always wanted to see what was beyond the palace walls and the planet. But as the youngest princess of the Mutong Empire, she has never been allowed any freedom. When her dead great grandmother predicts that she will marry the first foreign man of royal blood whose path she crossed and that she would be pregnant with his child soon, she automatically assumes it is Prince Lok, from their neighboring kingdom, the Singhai Empire. She is scheduled to attend dinner at their palace with her brother that night. She can’t stand Lok on sight and prays that her great grandmother’s prediction is wrong. When she and her brother leave to go home, there is a disturbance at the palace gates where they have just left. Two women are fleeing and being taken onto a spaceship. Mei assumes that they are kidnapping the women and goes to fight, despite her brothers orders to stay on the ship. She crashed into one of the men who picks her up and jumps on the ship just as they take off. Well, she wanted space travel, but this wasn’t exactly how she was expecting it to happen. Jarek, Var Prince of Qurilixen, has landed on the planet Lintian to rescue their pilot Rick, who was taken prisoner by intergalactic drug traders. Supposedly he is being held in the purple jade mines on the planet. Two of his crew sneak into the palace disguised as women to try and find a map telling them where the mines are. Once they find the map, they try to leave but are seen and must make a hasty exit! When a ball of furious female crashes into him, he assumes she is trying to excape the man she was following. Jarek assumed she was his concubine. But being the gentlemen he is he can’t leave her behind when she succeeded in escaping her master! Boy was he wrong! What follows is hilarious and touching. Jarek and Mei dance around each other, neither one telling the truth, until Mei sees the map they stole from the Singhai. They don’t know what they have, but she does, and it isn’t good for her people. A delightful book and the last Var Prince to meet his fated mate! Don’t miss it!
