  • It is a bit incoherent at times

This book felt rushed. Story lines kind of dropped off into the abyss, e.g. Effron. I mostly just wanted it to end, since I kind of figured the ending out in the previous book. This series reminded me why I stopped reading after Transitions. The highlights to me were learning more about Afrafenfere, the dragon sisters, and, as always, Jarlaxle. I always enjoy Drizzt’s journal entries. I appreciate the introspection and turmoil. Otherwise, it’s a bit telling that the main characters just aren’t that interesting, or perhaps there are just too many characters, and not enough focus on expanding the souls of the CotH. Also, what happened in chapter 19 with Bruenor’s throat wound? Athrogate fears it mortal and then it’s never mentioned again. I actually went back after ch 20 just to see if I had read it right. Unlike Transitions, I am keeping on with the reading. I started Archmage. What can I say? I’m a glutton, hopefully not for punishment.
